Over the past few days I had the privilege of assisting model/stylist Sadie Phelps in styling a photo shoot with fashion photographer Daniel Nadel: http://danielnadel.com/. The shoot took place over two days with 5 models from NEXT model management and the task of creating 5/6 outfits for each. It was extremely hard work due to the long hours and numerous outfits to be prepared, yet fascinating to see what goes on behind each photo. As a reader of fashion magazines you see the glamour and glitz of the industry; yet the actual work behind creating the image is far more intense. Both days we experienced floods of rain, making shooting on outside locations difficult. As a result there was a lot of running inside or outside; when the sun decided to shine for a while. Another aspect that is perhaps unthought-of when scanning through photos is the knowledge the photographer has. The lighting, position of the model and various other aspects had to be taken into consideration. The models themselves were around 15 years old and extremely thin, which greatly outlined the controversy of the industry. Nevertheless, I greatly enjoyed working with Sadie, her great experience of the industry having modelled for over 2 years (winning Ford Supermodel of the year 2009) meant that the shoot ran smoothly. She was able to relate to the models and instruct them in various parts, as well as ensuring that the outfits were correct for not only the model, but location. Here’s some photos I took along the way:
