'Lost in Lace'

Birmingham's Gas Hall museum exhibits a collection of work from UK and international artists who have used lace to influence their work. Yet it isn't only looking at the traditional form of lace, with the beautiful and intricate pattern, but exploring other aspects inspired by lace. The exhibition is showing from the 29 October 2011 to 19 February 2012.

Each artist has explored lace differently; here are a few of my favourites...

Annie Bascoul
Jardin de lit, lit de jardin.

Chiharu Shiota
After the dream
"I am more interested in the lines which are often represented in my work, through black string"
This piece of work is perhaps my favourite due to the mystery and story attached.

Tamar Frank
A thin line between space and matter
"the pattern is defined by the space in between the threads; the emptiness."

 Suzumi Noda
Juxtaposition
"Lace is to make holes, holes which allow the wind to pass through, such that thinking and feeling become more flexible"
